Dr. Nicole Ruggeri

Nicole T. Ruggeri, PsyD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Hello, and thank you for your interest in my private practice. I am a New York State licensed clinical psychologist specializing in psychotherapy for adults. My areas of expertise and advanced training include cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), bereavement and grief therapy, depression, anxiety, and medical-related psychological difficulties. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space to explore, understand, and cope with the stressful parts of life. Psychotherapy can improve awareness and understanding of emotional symptoms; it can also increase coping skills and solution-focused problem solving. I believe in helping people reach their goals and improve the overall quality of their lives through a collaborative, genuine, and respectful therapeutic relationship.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My Therapy Style

I utilize an evidence-based approach to therapy that is grounded in cognitive behavior theory. This type of therapy focuses on the ways in which our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with and influence each other, based upon both current and past experiences. I work to help my clients explore and better understand the relationships between current stressors, thoughts, behaviors, and emotions while making connections to the past. I simultaneously introduce concrete coping skills, behavioral exercises, and other real-world strategies to utilize outside of therapy. Over time, I help clients learn how to skillfully identify and modify their cognitive, behavioral, and emotional stuck points. Perhaps most importantly, I tailor therapy to each individual and their particular set of circumstances.

I have devoted much of my career to learning about the powerful and universal human experiences of loss and grief. I have a personal affinity for and professional expertise in helping people work through their grieving process in a sensitive, thoughtful, and respectful manner. I have worked with many different types of individuals experiencing many different types of losses. Over the course of my career I have witnessed great resilience emerge from the depths of grief and loss.

My Background

I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at Fairfield University and graduated summa cum laude. I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD) in 2010 from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University, where I was awarded the Jeffrey Sage Memorial Award for Excellence in Clinical Psychology. In addition to general training in adult clinical psychology and intensive training in cognitive behavior therapy, I received specialized training in clinical geriatric psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Jacobi Medical Center. I completed a predoctoral clinical internship at WJCS and a postdoctoral clinical fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, Westchester Division. Upon finishing my fellowship, I opened Westchester Clinical Psychology in 2012.

I have worked at different types of mental health and medical facilities throughout Westchester County. I was a staff psychologist and the coordinator of the bereavement program at WJCS. I have also worked as a consulting clinical psychologist at long-term care medical facilities and short-term physical rehabilitation facilities, where I provided psychotherapy, neurocognitive assessment services, and crisis intervention to people with both medical and psychological difficulties. I have also taught psychological assessment and report writing to graduate students as an adjunct assistant professor of clinical psychology at Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. Before focusing exclusively on private practice, most recently, I was the associate director and outreach coordinator at the Iona College Counseling Center. My responsibilities there included administrative duties, crisis management, psychotherapy, outreach services, and professional writing, editing, and presenting of mental health content.
